Newborn with Diarrhea – When To Take Your Baby To His Pediatrician?

When it comes to new born diarrhea, parents may have difficulty to distinguish the difference between normal and not so normal diarrhea. It is very important that parents know how to deal with the condition to some extent.

Below are some of the things to look for when you are thinking about when to take your baby to his pediatrician when he is suffering from diarrhea:

Dehydration

If your newborn shows symptoms of dehydration, you should take him to the pediatrician immediately. This condition is very dangerous for babies and can possibly cause more serious health issues. You should keep a bottle of Pedialyte in your house so you can be prepared for just such incidents. Usually, the pediatrician will tell you to give your baby a bit of this liquid to support her rehydration.

Prolonged Diarrhea

If your newborn’s diarrhea lasts for more than a day, you should take him to his pediatrician. Having diarrhea for a long period can result in other health problems. The pediatrician will determine the proper treatment that is best for your baby.

Other Symptoms

If your child has fever or is throwing up, it could be signs of a more serious health issue. You should consult his doctor to get the best course of action. The pediatrician will generally give you suggestions on what to give your baby and you can be able to give him detailed information regarding the changes in your baby’s condition within a certain amount of time to bring him in.

Diarrhea is a condition that is not usually something that parents have to worry about too much. Keep in mind that taking a few simple steps can help relieve the condition and slow down the bowel movements. The problem can be treated by using over the counter medications; however, you should consult your child’s pediatrician prior to giving them to your baby.
